adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Axel is an eye-catching handsome German Shepherd-Mix male dog who desperately needs a new, dog-experienced home. Currently, the brave male dog is having problems with his hip. The cause of his drooping hip must be clarified soon so that he can become fit and healthy again. For that, Axel needs a quiet and warm place where he can recover and possibly receive veterinary treatment. Therefore, we are looking for loving and empathetic people who would like to take the wonderful male dog into their home and support his recovery. At the moment, Axel lives a monotonous and sad life in the overcrowded Public Shelter in Baia Mare as one of several hundred homeless dogs. He is still a bit unsure, seeking contact with people, taking treats out of their hands, and allowing himself to be gently touched. But he seems disappointed with life and spends his days quietly and alone in the kennel. Despite being around 6 years old, he is in the best dog years – the wild phase is behind him, and yet more than half of his life lies ahead. We are holding our breath that his remaining years will be happier. With a shoulder height of about 62 cm, Axel is a large dog. He has stocky, black-brown fur and small, triangular standing ears. His appearance and size suggest that he is a German Shepherd-Mix. With lots of love, care, good food, and the right medical support, Axel will surely develop into an eye-catching and impressive male dog. Axel's beautiful, golden-brown eyes look skeptically into the future, as if he still cannot believe in a happy turn. But that is what we have promised him, and we are working hard to find him a good home. Here at the shelter, Axel sits alone in a kennel. Therefore, we cannot yet make any statements about his compatibility with other animals. But we are sure that experienced and understanding people will find their way to his insecure soul, and that it will succeed in winning Axel's trust if they do not expect anything from him and give him plenty of time to open up at his own pace. It is expected that after the adjustment period, the wonderful male dog will develop German Shepherd-like traits and show particular willingness to learn. Therefore, working with sensitive and positively oriented dog training classes would contribute to strengthening Axel's self-confidence, building trust in his trusted people, and appropriately challenging him. We wish Axel patient, dog-experienced, and loving adopters who are looking forward to showing him how beautiful life with animal-friendly people can be. Axel should be rehomed in a more quiet environment. His new people should have plenty of time to mentally stimulate Axel and offer him security and stability. We would also be very happy to have a foster home for our brave Axel, where he can take the first steps toward becoming a happy house dog. Axel can travel to his new home immediately, microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, dewormed, and flea-treated with an EU pet passport. He is named Axel by Sunny W., who has given him a unique identity. As of: 09.06.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen!

About Axel

What life with Axel looks like

Axel is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Axel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Axel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Axel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Axel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Axel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Axel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Axel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
