Adopt Ayo

German Shepherd · Male · Adult · 6 years

Ayo was finally able to travel to its German foster home. February 13, 2026: Ayo finally made it and was able to travel to Germany. Now, he waits here for his big luck – for people who would like to give him a real forever home. The wonderful, adult German Shepherd male dog impresses with his presence, his energy, and his strength. In him, the typical German Shepherd shines: vigilant, attentive, and loyal. He is reliable and keeps an eye on his surroundings – yet he is absolutely approachable and open. One can clearly see that Ayo is used to having a male primary caregiver by his side. He bonds closely with his foster parent and actively seeks proximity. This strong orientation towards "his" person shows how much he desires a firm bond. He wants to belong, to go through life together, and to orient himself by his person. His current foster home is an important stopover, but the many environmental stimuli make it difficult for him to truly settle down. Ayo needs a quieter, more structured environment where he can arrive and let himself be. On the leash, Ayo still needs to learn to walk properly – his strength currently comes with full motivation. He also wants to learn basic commands. He brings a lot of potential and would be very happy to have people by his side who enjoy learning with such an attentive dog and growing together. Ayo wants to be supported, to develop, and to be part of a team. He loves cuddles – attention and affection are absorbed by him like a sponge. Even though he is no longer a young pup, he is in the best age: ready for a close bond, ready for new experiences, and ready for his final home. A special thanks goes to the photographer Ilona Seipp, who has supported Ayo with wonderful images. Her photos show so wonderfully what a special dog he is – thank you so much for that! We wish so much that Ayo is now seen. Where are the people who will give this impressive male dog a warm spot and show him that his journey is truly at its destination? If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption means not only a lot of joy but also work and great responsibility, then we look forward to your message. We provide nationwide.

About Ayo

What life with Ayo looks like

Ayo is a large adult german shepherd dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ayo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ayo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ayo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ayo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ayo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ayo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ayo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
