An old lady over 80 years old received two beautiful dogs from her children for Christmas a few years ago. It was a kind gesture, but not very wise. What if something happened to their (old) owner? That was all no problem, until the point came and mommy suddenly fell ill and succumbed to these sweltering temperatures. None of the children wanted the dogs. Once the most beloved possession of their mom, but now no longer of account. They ended up in the killing station where they were in a suffocating hot cage waiting to see what their fate would be. Their owner's heart would break if she knew that this was done to her most precious possession on earth. We took these poor creatures in and now they are slowly getting better, but we are not "home". Our people and team spoil them and try to get them out of their shell, but no dog deserves to be in a cage. They are off the rails and are very sad, look dull in their eyes and wanted it to be like before, with their owner on their lap, together in the garden, on the move, at the treats. Knabbel and Babbel can certainly be placed separately but preferably with a stable and self-confident dog. But we see them best off leaving the refuge at the same time, each to their new safe haven, so that none of them has to stay behind.

Een oud dametje van over de 80 jaar kreeg enkele jaren geleden van haar kinderen twee prachtige hondjes voor kerst. Het was een lief gebaar, maar niet erg verstandig. Wat als er iets zou gebeuren met hun (oude) baasje? Dat was allemaal geen probleem, tot puntje bij paaltje kwam en mama lief plots ziek werd en bezweek onder deze verzengende temperaturen. Geen van de kinderen wilde de hondjes. Ooit het dierbaarste bezit van hun mama, maar nu niet meer van tel. Ze belandden in het dodenstation waar ze in een stikkend hete kooi zaten af te wachten wat hun lot nu zou worden. Hun baasje haar hart zou breken moest ze weten dat dit haar dierbaarste bezit op aarde werd aangedaan. We namen deze sukkeltjes binnen en nu ze bij ons zijn, gaat het stilaan beter, maar we zijn geen “thuis”. Onze mensen en team verwennen hen en proberen hen uit hun schulp te laten komen, maar geen enkele hond verdient het om in een hok te moeten zitten. Ze zijn het padje af en zijn heel triestig, kijken dof uit hun oogjes en wilden dat het weer zoals vroeger was, bij hun baasje op schoot, samen in de tuin, op stap, aan de lekkernijen. Knabbel en Babbel kunnen zeker apart geplaatst worden maar liefst bij een stabiel en zelfzeker hondje. Maar we zien hen wel liefst tegelijkertijd vertrekken uit de refugio, elk naar hun nieuwe veilige haven, zodat er geen van hen moet achterblijven.
