Babi

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 12 years

For an explanation, please read Why we are cautious about placing our dogs with families with small children. Dear Babi, a senior but still with the zest of a young lady! This beautiful girl had an owner who treated her very badly. She has lived in poor conditions all her life. Fortunately, one of the neighbors could not stand it anymore and intervened, calling the animal police. In this way, she ended up in the animal shelter. For a dog who has gone through so much, she shows enormous resilience. Although she finds some things a bit stressful, she recovers quickly and is very people-oriented. She is also very food motivated, so she is likely trainable... but because of that, she has a few extra pounds. Therefore, she definitely needs to be on a diet with a new owner, her target weight is around 12-15 kilograms. Would you like to show Babi what it means to be an owner, with lots of love, warmth, and safety? Do you also think that adopting an older dog is so valuable and grateful? Don't hesitate to send us a message! Adopting a senior dog is very rewarding. In the animal shelter, both the puppies and the older dogs have a really hard time, especially in winter. Severe frost is not unusual and the kennels in the animal shelter are unheated. Older dogs are often overlooked, but they deserve to have a warm bed in a loving and safe home. When a suitable adopter or foster family comes forward, our foundation arranges transportation with approved and professional pet transport. We hope to be able to book a single trip to the Netherlands for this lovely dog soon! Adoptant or foster family profile: For sweet Babi, we are looking for a home with people who have sufficient experience and insight, a quiet living environment, enough time, and a well-fenced garden.

* voor een toelichting, lees Waarom wij voorzichtig zijn met het plaatsen van onze honden bij gezinnen met kleine kinderen alstublieft. Lieve Babi, een senior maar nog met de levenslust van een jonge dame! Deze mooie meid had een eigenaar die haar zeer slecht behandelde. Ze heeft haar hele leven in slechte omstandigheden gezeten. Gelukkig kon een van de buren het niet aanzien, die heeft ingegrepen en de dierenpolitie gebeld. Op die manier is ze in het asiel terecht gekomen. Voor een hond die zoveel heeft meegemaakt, vertoont ze enorm veel veerkracht. Hoewel ze sommige dingen nog wat spannend vindt, herstelt ze zich snel en is enorm mensgericht. Ze is ook erg voergericht, dus waarschijnlijk goed trainbaar... maar daardoor heeft ze wel wat pondjes extra. Ze zal dus zeker op dieet moeten bij een nieuwe eigenaar, haar streefgewicht is rond de 12-15 kilo. Wil jij Babi graag laten zien hoe een eigenaar ook kan zijn, met veel liefde, warmte en veilgiheid? Vind ook jij dat juist een oude hond adopteren zo enorm waardevol en dankbaar is? Schroom dan niet om ons een berichtje te doen! Een senior hond adopteren is enorm dankbaar. In het asiel hebben vooral de pups en de oudere honden het heel moeilijk, zeker in de winter. Strenge vorst is geen uitzondering en de kennels in het asiel zijn onverwarmd. Oude honden worden gauw over het hoofd gezien, maar ze verdienen het zo om een warm mandje te krijgen in een liefdevol en veilig thuis. Wanneer zich een goed passende adoptant of een opvanggezin aandient, dan regelt onze stichting het vervoer met goedgekeurd en professioneel huisdiertransport. We hopen dat we voor deze lieve hond snel een enkele reis naar Nederland kunnen boeken! Profiel adoptant of gastgezin: Voor lieve Babi zoeken we een thuis bij mensen met voldoende ervaring en inzicht, een rustige woonomgeving, voldoende tijd en een goed omheinde tuin*;

About Babi

What life with Babi looks like

Babi is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Straydogs Rescue Nederland in RC Nieuwe Pekela.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Babi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Babi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Straydogs Rescue Nederland handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Babi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Babi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Straydogs Rescue Nederland will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Babi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Babi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Straydogs Rescue Nederland early rather than rehoming privately; they know Babi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
