That happened to me too. I was friendly. I was beautiful. I was smart. I also thought that way. I thought my real home was surely somewhere behind a corner. When I was found, there was still a broken chain around my neck. The shelter kennel immediately knew what it meant. So I had been living alone in the yard, tied to a post and without human attention, so they didn't even try to look for my irresponsible owners. Also, no one ever came to ask about me. At first I waited every day. When the door opened, my tail started wagging immediately. I thought: Maybe today someone will come for me. Days turned into weeks. Weeks into months. And then... into years. Now it has been three years. Still I am the same Balbo. I love people. I love to run, sniff the forest and go on long adventures. I also enjoy quiet moments, when a person sits beside me and strokes my head.

Olin siis asunut pihalla yksinäni, sidottuna koppiin ja vailla ihmisen huomiota, joten he eivät edes yrittäneet etsiä vastuuttomia omistajiani. Kukaan ei myöskään koskaan tullut kyselemään minusta. Aluksi odotin joka päivä. Kun ovi aukesi, häntäni alkoi heilua heti. Ajattelin: Ehkä tänään joku tulee minua varten. Päivät muuttuivat viikoiksi. Viikot kuukausiksi. Ja sitten… vuosiksi. Nyt siitä on kulunut kolme vuotta. Silti minä olen sama Balbo. Rakastan ihmisiä. Rakastan juosta, haistella metsää ja lähteä pitkille seikkailuille. Pidän myös rauhallisista hetkistä, kun ihminen istuu vieressä ja silittää päätäni.
