BamBam

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Bambam was successfully rehomed to the Dresden area in March 2016 after fulfilling all legal and our club requirements. He adores his human, runs around and plays and frolics with her. Both send very loving greetings..... ………………………………………………………. My name is BamBam. I am male, neutered, microchipped and born in 2008. I am about 60 cm tall. I have been waiting since June 2015 for a new home. This is what my caregivers say about me: BamBam is a transfer from a small animal protection association to increase his chances of being adopted. He originally came from the local veterinary office as his owner became criminal. For about two years he has been waiting in vain for his second chance, and now he gets his third chance at a great life with us. BamBam has pepper in his muscle, and can run relaxed through the prairie just as well, politely and properly. When on a leash it's hard to imagine, he had to vent his exuberance on toys until now, which he then shakes so much that you fear he might get a shaking trauma - we are working on getting him to stop doing that. After running a few meters, he drops it and finds it uninteresting. Otherwise, this is an alternative scenario, before that the leash was always the object of his desire, which can be quickly misunderstood, so we have decided for this option for now. Also, jumping up with momentum is something BamBam enjoys, we less, another bad habit that BamBam still needs to get rid of. While walking, BamBam walks well past other dogs. Interestingly, he is not really a ball fetcher on the lawn, he does run after it, but after ten times, it's laughable... the others can do that, he probably thinks. Bambam loves water, our summer pool is used extensively for splashing. He clearly enjoys swimming sessions in the puddle, as a break during long walks. He likes cuddling, his head is big and fluffy, so it's worth snuggling his whole body properly. BamBam lived in a family with children before and knows family life. In the car, he stays calm and relaxed. He is house trained with us, although upon arrival he first marked his area. Since BamBam still has a lot to learn about manners, an experienced household would be beneficial, as well as a place where he can live as a single prince for now. BamBam will not be rehomed with male dogs, if a female dog is present, it must first be tested whether cohabitation is possible. BamBam is a lovable male dog who still needs some refinement, but definitely a very nice guy. He is simply looking for his matching lid, where rushing off and "I'm so happy" episodes are calmly met and then followed by cozy walks.... Due to his breed, BamBam will only be rehomed under the corresponding legal requirements, and we will advise our interested parties. Best placed with a resident dog (second-dog home).

About BamBam

What life with BamBam looks like

BamBam is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting BamBam, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about BamBam?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw BamBam on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt BamBam if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is BamBam already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if BamBam isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know BamBam and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
