Adopt Barcadi

European Shorthair · Male · Young · 2 years

Hello, my wife and I often rescue cats from the streets or from neglectful households. We rescued Barcadi, born at the end of August 2024, about 1 month ago. He had fleas, mites, and his fur was neglected. He has been treated for all parasites, and with proper nutrition, his fur has become soft and dense. Unfortunately, his previous owners did not take good care of him, so he wasn't even vaccinated and roamed around unneutered. Therefore, an HIV test was conducted, which fortunately came back negative. All treatments that have been carried out are documented with invoices. Barcadi will be given away unneutered and unvaccinated, so he is looking for a home that will take care of all further treatments (the vet confirms he is now healthy). He is a very people-oriented tomcat, very affectionate and cuddly. Due to the other cats in the household, he is currently under quarantine and is feeling overwhelmed, which he clearly shows, though only recently because he doesn't know what to do with his energy. Therefore, the tomcat will only be given to a family where the children are old enough and he can remain an outdoor cat. The price is non-negotiable (100€) and serves as an adoption fee, meaning the tomcat can always come back if there are any issues. Please contact us only if you are serious about adopting and can ensure that the tomcat will be vaccinated, neutered, and allowed to roam freely. For serious interest, you can reach us by email () or phone ().

About Barcadi

What life with Barcadi looks like

Barcadi is a young adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barcadi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barcadi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barcadi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barcadi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barcadi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barcadi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzzentrum Ribbesbüttel early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barcadi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
