Barkey

German Shepherd · Male · Puppy

I am Barkey, a clever little observer looking for my forever home! I am a handsome Shepherd mix, still a youngster and tend to be more thoughtful than others my age. While others may jump headfirst into every adventure, I prefer to take a moment to observe new situations. I want to know who and what I'm dealing with 😉 But don't worry: once I've taken a moment to observe, my friendly and playful side quickly emerges. I am curious, open-minded and eager to discover the world. As a clever little fellow, I also want to learn a lot. With the right people by my side, I will definitely be a great companion who is enthusiastic about learning and going through life with his people. What I wish for? 🐾 People who give me security with calmness, patience and loving consistency. 🐾 A rather quiet, rural home - the big city bustle is not my thing. 🐾 People who give me the time to arrive and build trust at my own pace. I may not have the biggest daredevil mentality, but I have brains, charm and a lot of potential for a wonderful friendship. Would you like to show me how beautiful a home can be? Then I look forward to getting to know you! ❤️ Paw-friendly greetings, from Barkey. Microchip, vaccinated, dewormed

Was ich mir wünsche?

About Barkey

What life with Barkey looks like

Barkey is a large puppy german shepherd dog waiting at Cats & Dogs in Not in Furth.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barkey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barkey?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Cats & Dogs in Not handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barkey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barkey if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Cats & Dogs in Not will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Barkey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barkey isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Cats & Dogs in Not early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barkey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
