Barney

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

I’m a 4-month-old Border Collie cross puppy looking for my forever home through no fault of my own. Everyone says I’m a very sweet boy, and now I’m hoping to find a family who can help me grow into the best companion I can be. As I’m still very young, I have lots to learn about the world around me. I’ll need a patient and understanding home that recognises I’m still a baby and will need support with housetraining, basic manners, and learning all the things that good dogs need to know. Positive reward-based training will help me build my confidence and understand what’s expected of me. With time, consistency, and plenty of encouragement, I promise I’ll figure it all out! I love to play, explore, and have the occasional zoomie, so I’ll need a secure garden with 6ft fencing where I can safely burn off some puppy energy and enjoy myself. I could live with children aged 11 and over who understand that I’m still learning and will need my own space, boundaries, and time to rest when I’ve had enough excitement. I may be able to live with another friendly dog and possibly even a cat, provided we’re introduced properly and get along well. Because I’m still a puppy, I’d like any time spent alone to be introduced very gradually. I’ll need help learning that being by myself is safe and nothing to worry about, so my new family should be prepared to build this up slowly and at my pace. If you’re looking for a loving, clever, and affectionate young pup to welcome into your family, I could be the perfect match. All I need is a little patience, guidance, and lots of love—and I’ll reward you with a lifetime of friendship.

About Barney

What life with Barney looks like

Barney is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Jerry Green Dog Rescue in Lincoln.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barney, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barney?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Jerry Green Dog Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barney on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barney if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Jerry Green Dog Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barney already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barney isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Jerry Green Dog Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barney and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
