adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this dog! Barney has found a home! His story: Still very cautious, the sweet "Fast-Opi" Barney looks into his new world with wide eyes and can hardly believe he has escaped the horror. The approximately 8-year-old male dog was rescued from the notorious Suraia horror shelter, where many dogs starved or froze to death. Barney has survived – and now he should be allowed to really live again! When he arrived, he was very unsure and didn't know what to expect. Everything was strange and frightening. But now he has really blossomed, enjoys human affection more and more, and lets himself be stroked incredibly willingly. One can see how much he longs for closeness and security. Barney brings a great size of 51 cm and a pleasant calmness. He is no daredevil, but a gentle and very lovable male dog. With fellow animals, he shows himself to be compatible. As for cats, we cannot currently make a statement. For Barney, we wish for a loving family that gives him the time to settle in. People with a heart, patience, and understanding, who do not have great expectations but simply want to give him a safe home – for the rest of his life. A quiet household would be ideal, preferably with a confident only dog at his side. Also, a foster home would greatly help him as a springboard into his new life. Barney has endured so much. Now, finally, the beautiful part of his life should begin. We are sure: Whoever gives the gentle treasure a chance will get a faithful companion who is grateful every day to be allowed to belong. Barney travels vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas, and neutered. During his travel arrangements, he of course brings an EU pet passport. Who will give our dear "Fast-Opi" Barney a loving home for the rest of his life? Many thanks, Susanne H.! You have given Barney his identity! As of: 27.02.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Vielen Dank Susanne H.! Du hast Barney seine Identität geschenkt! Stand: 27.02.2026

About Barney

What life with Barney looks like

Barney is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barney, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barney?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barney on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barney if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barney already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barney isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barney and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
