adoption requirements adoption process Inquire about this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Inquire about this dog now! Barry was found as a stray in a village. At that time, he was severely underweight, and it’s uncertain how much longer he could have survived on his own. Luckily, he secured a spot in a local foster home, where he was nursed back to health. Now he’s ready to start a new and happy life as a dog. The young male dog is approximately 1.5 years old, having just passed through adolescence. He has a lovely medium size, and with his handsome face and distinctive coat color, he turns heads wherever he goes. His tail is shortened, but that doesn’t stop him from wagging it joyfully—it’s practically always in motion with this friendly pup. In his foster home, Barry is also known as “the shadow,” because wherever people are, there’s Barry. He loves being close to humans and showers everyone with kisses all day long. Nobody is safe from Barry’s affection—not people, and not even other dogs. Indeed, he happily lavishes attention on the other dogs in the foster home too. Therefore, having a friendly canine companion in his new home wouldn’t be a problem at all. But Barry would also be perfectly content as an only dog. He also absolutely loves his toys, which he enjoys playing with—or occasionally shredding. Barry truly is “Everybody’s Darling.” He also gets along wonderfully with children, although they should probably be slightly older and steady on their feet, since Barry still tends to jump up excitedly out of sheer enthusiasm. He finds cats fascinating—he enjoys chasing after them and sniffing them curiously, showing no aggression whatsoever. Although Barry still has plenty to learn, he’s already demonstrating eagerness to learn and please while in his foster home. His foster family proudly reports that Barry only does his business outside. We’re confident this clever boy will quickly pick things up and grow into a wonderful family member. Attending positively reinforced dog training classes would also be a fantastic opportunity for him to keep developing and strengthening his bond with his humans. The handsome Barry is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas, and already has his own EU pet passport. He can be adopted following a positive home check. Should his forever family not be ready just yet, a foster home would be an incredibly kind option for Barry. So if you have space and capacity, we’d be thrilled if you could offer him this chance. Barry’s suitcase is packed—will you give him his ticket to happiness? Thank you, dear Marion V.! Thanks to your naming sponsorship, Barry can hope for the home he truly deserves. As of: 20.03.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 20.03.2026

About Barry

What life with Barry looks like

Barry is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Barry, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Barry?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Barry on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Barry if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Barry already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Barry isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Barry and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
