Basil is a small and feisty gentleman. Although Basil is kind and loves people, he can also be stubborn and aware of his own worth. This little fellow does not stay in the background, but likes to be the center of attention. Basil loves petting on his own terms, and his favorite place is in a person's lap. Basil also enjoys playing, especially with squeaky toys and balls, and could play with them all day. Basil is a bit skeptical about grooming and especially nail trimming. If he is cooperative, he has let people clean his ears and eyes, but if Basil does not like something, it will not be unclear to the person. It is important for a new home to learn to read Basil's gestures, respect his boundaries, and practice grooming procedures on Basil's terms. Basil has gotten along with female dogs at HESY, but he keeps a close eye on his own toys. A small girl dog could be a good companion for Basil in a new home, but Basil may not need a dog companion and can also do well as the only dog in the family. Basil could adapt to apartment living, as he has not been particularly prone to barking at HESY. Basil sometimes orders people to bark if things do not go according to his plans, but when left alone, he does not bark after the person. Although Basil has gotten along well with almost everyone at HESY, he is unlikely to be suitable for a family with very young children. Basil would be best suited to a home where the dog is given space if needed and can appreciate his stubborn personality. Previous experience with strong-willed dogs is considered an advantage.

8.9.2026: Basil on pieni ja pippurinenkin herrasmies. Vaikka Basil on kiltti ja ihmisrakas luonteeltaan, osaa hän myös olla omapäinen ja tiedostaa oman arvonsa. Tämä pikkumies ei jää seinäruusuksi, vaan on mielellään huomion keskipisteenä. Basil pitää kovasti silityksistä omilla ehdoillaan, ja herran lempipaikka onkin ihmisen sylissä. Myös leikkiminen on vilkkaan ja energisen Basilin mieleen – erityisesti vinkulelut ja pallot ovat suosikkeja, ja niiden kanssa voisi touhuta vaikka koko päivän. Basil suhtautuu hoitotoimenpiteisiin ja etenkin kynsienleikkuuseen hieman epäileväisesti. Yhteistyöhaluiselle päälle sattuessaan hän on antanut hienosti puhdistaa korvat ja silmät, mutta jos Basil ei jostakin pidä, ei se jää ihmiselle epäselväksi.
