Bean

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Meet Bean our dashing Dachshund cross!! Bean arrived at Battersea along with his friend who he'd been living with for several years. Sadly they had to be split as they weren't kennelling well together and bounced off each other when it came to reactivity on walks. Since being split however, Bean has been doing really well with his training, learning that despite being a Daxie he doesn't need to shout at everything. Bean has a lovely history of being sweet and affectionate with adults and children alike and got on well with the cat and tortoise that he shared his home with. Onsite we have seen the same sweet and affectionate character, he loves to play and cuddle with his people and has been friendly and playful with the dogs he's met as long as they don't take offence to his shouty greeting. Bean is now ready to go to a new loving home and would prefer to live in a quieter location or one where there are quieter walking routes, he would like a garden but doesn't necessarily need one as long as new owners can provide him with ample exercise and stimulation. He could potentially live with another dog and or cat and doesn't mind if his new owners are single, a couple or a family with children. If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about Bean, you can e-mail our rehoming team on to register your interest.

About Bean

What life with Bean looks like

Bean is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

Note from the shelter: Requires outside access

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bean, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bean?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bean on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bean if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bean already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bean isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bean and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
