Belian

Male · Young · 2 years

A gentle giant named Belian has moved to a loving foster home where he has been cared for tenderly. He is now ready to find his own family. The impressive, now about 60 kg strong dog is a calm and gentle character. He is initially cautious and reserved with strangers, but once he assesses the situation, he warms up. With his primary caregiver, Belian completely drops his uncertainty and enjoys every caress. Closeness and affection are the most important things for him. Belian lives peacefully with a male and a female dog at his foster home. He politely ignores the house cat and also likes the school-age child in the family. He regularly attends a social play class at the dog school, where he fits in exceptionally well. He is an uncomplicated participant who consistently avoids conflicts and simply wants harmony. Due to his size, weight, and breed, we would like Belian to go to people with dog experience. He feels especially comfortable near familiar dogs or when his primary caregiver makes clear decisions for him. Belian is housebroken, walks very nicely on a leash, travels calmly in the car, and shows hardly any misbehavior in daily life. Health: Belian has internal testicles that need to be surgically removed once he is fully grown and the connective tissue is stable enough. Additionally, a mild hip dysplasia was detected on one side, which does not require special treatment at the moment. Depending on the load, he receives pain medication. He handles short walks without problems and is not limited in daily life. He will probably not become a sport dog or a long-distance jogging partner - but rather a truly lovable, affectionate companion with a big heart. If you have fallen in love with this gentle giant, Belian's adopter from SALVA Hundehilfe will be happy to hear from you. Here is Belian's video.

DE·Show original

About Belian

What life with Belian looks like

Belian is a extra-large young adult dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Belian, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Belian?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Belian on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Belian if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Belian already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Belian isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Belian and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
