Bella

Mastiff · Female · Young · 1 year

Bella is a sweet sensitive girl who unfortunately arrived as a stray and therefore we have no history on her life before Battersea. She loves human attention and has shown to easily over bond with people that care for her and will often seek reassurance from them. She is looking for owners who have experience and knowledge of anxious dogs and who will help her rebuild her confidence. Bella can be underconfident when she meets dogs, and will need gentle exposure to allow her to build up that confidence gradually with regular dog socials and with friends who she can approach in her own time. Owners will need to reward calm, relaxed behaviours to help boost her self esteem. Bella has shown at times to be stressed when coming back to her kennel from a walk and will need a quiet home location where she can not feel overwhelmed and triggered by things which may spook her as she has shown to be worried by loud sounds. She is looking for owners who are able to provide her with a reliable routine to help her feel more secure within herself and learn to cope and settle when being left alone in a home. New owners will need to be patient in helping her adjust to a home environment, where we know she will want to spend time with her humans and enjoy having company! If you have already completed our online rehoming form and would like to know more about Bella you can e-mail our rehoming team on to register your interest.

About Bella

What life with Bella looks like

Bella is a medium-sized young adult mastiff dog waiting at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home in London.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bella, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bella?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bella on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bella if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Battersea Dogs & Cats Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bella already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bella isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Battersea Dogs & Cats Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bella and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
