Ben

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy

Such a handsome boy our Ben! And a true collie! He is definitely the dog for someone who appreciates the cleverness and focus of a working dog and he will need an interactive environment where he can express his strong traits. Ben is 11 months of age, so will be a year in November 2026. He is very sweet and gentle with people, loves cuddles and giving the paw and will happily spend his days following an owner around a garden or farm. Ben gets very stimulated by movement – whether that is other dogs, cats or livestock – he wants to round-up and get working! As a result we would prefer to see him in a home without other animals so they don’t have to bear the brunt of his need to work! He just needs a person who is looking for a loyal, clever companion. A rural home with no direct access to livestock is the environment that will suit him best. We also wonder if Ben night want to round up any children in the home, so ideally only teenagers+ for Ben. Owners who spend plenty of time walking, gardening or farming would be ideal.

About Ben

What life with Ben looks like

Ben is a puppy mixed breed dog waiting at West Cork Animals in Cork.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Ben, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ben?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. West Cork Animals handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ben on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ben if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — West Cork Animals will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Ben already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ben isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with West Cork Animals early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ben and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
