Adopt Bente

Female · Adult · 7 years

Affectionate girl would like to be with you. This is Bente. A gentle shepherd dog, 7 years old. Unfortunately, she was deprived of the proper care for a long time, which led her to come to us undernourished and with a tumor. She is well-socialized and ready for a new, loving life. Bente will immediately creep into your heart with her lovely eyes and gentle aura. She is somewhat insecure in certain situations but finds a lot of support from her caregiver. If it's up to her, she will be with you all day and never leave your side. Snuggling is really her favorite hobby. On a leash, she walks properly beside you, and we finally see her enjoying the outdoors. She doesn't know how to play, but attention and cuddles are the most important things for her. Bente reacts well to other dogs. Bente is now at a healthy weight. The tumor near her anus has been removed, and her teeth have been checked. Some of her teeth are worn down. We would like to place our dear girl with people who are always at home and have experience with shepherds and/or uncertain dogs. Placing her with a stable, social dog from which she can draw support may help her with being alone and building her confidence. Bente likes quiet people and will not be placed in a busy family. Interested in Bente? Contact us via and mention in your motivation at least: Sensitive, curious, and brave when needed.

Knuffelen is echt haar favoriete hobby. Interesse in Bente?

About Bente

What life with Bente looks like

Bente is a large adult dog waiting at Dierentehuis in Netherlands.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bente, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bente?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bente on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bente if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bente already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bente isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bente and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
