Adopt Gunner

Australian Shepherd · Male · Young · 1 year

Charmer wants to discover everything in the world! Meet our Gunner. He is really a people person and greets everyone as if they are his best friend. He never says no to cuddles, attention or playing together. This handsome guy is just one year old and still full of energy. Sitting still is not exactly his thing: Gunner wants to discover so much more of the world and he does this best with someone by his side. He is social and gets along well with other dogs, cats and children. Due to his enthusiasm, he can sometimes be a little clumsy. Because of entropion, Gunner has had surgery on his right eye. A part of his eyelid has been removed. He has recovered well and currently experiences no difficulty from it. His eye does require extra care. Gunner is looking for an active and loving home where he can expend his energy. Long walks, playing and training together make him the happiest. Therefore, we definitely recommend a (obedience) course so he can develop into a fantastic adult dog. Are you looking for a cheerful, energetic and affectionate four-legged friend who is always ready for you? Then contact us via and mention in your motivation at least: Sensitive, curious and brave when needed. Affectionate girl wants to be with you.

About Gunner

What life with Gunner looks like

Gunner is a large young adult australian shepherd dog waiting at Dierentehuis in Netherlands.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Gunner, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Gunner?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Gunner on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Gunner if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Gunner already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Gunner isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis early rather than rehoming privately; they know Gunner and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
