Adopt Berci

Male · Adult · 6 years

Hometown: Hungary Berci, a lively, curious dog man, has been waiting since December 2020 at the animal shelter for the chance to exchange it for his own home. Already at the age of just over 12 months, Berci had to learn what it means to live without trusted people and to be on his own from one day to the next! Fortunately, the handsome fellow was saved and felt safe in the animal shelter. Berci is young, playful, agile, and needs age-appropriate stimulation for his body and mind. He wants to do something, is ready to learn; but he needs people who can lead him responsibly and purposefully. The male dog gets along well with his fellow animals, but tends to be a bit dominant. Who has experience with staff-mix dog men and wants to build a beautiful human-dog relationship with Berci, show him the nature, and show him everything he has only dreamed of? On August 4, 2024, a voluntary Hungarian helper wrote: "Berci was taken in at the age of one and has been in the animal shelter for almost three and a half years. He has spent almost his entire life here. On the day of his mentor, he was allowed to go for a walk. When they put the collar and leash on him, I took a few photos before the walk. He could have run, he could have sniffed... but the most important thing for him was to be stroked by his mentor. He longs for love, care, and walks together, he cuddled up to his mentor. Berci was grateful for every kind word, every stroke. Berci walked obediently on the leash and constantly listened to his leader. On walks, he sometimes stopped, jumped up - not in an intrusive way - and asked to be spoiled. On the walks, he also met children and was friendly to them. Berci went for walks with other dogs - at a safe distance - and showed interest. He was not tense, growled, jumped, or barked. His beautiful tiger-striped fur is very soft. Berci and his mentor got along well and enjoyed every minute of the walk. According to his file, he is lively, people-oriented, friendly, and easy to handle. Berci is waiting for his new, permanent, responsible owner. He wants to move into his safe home as part of the family. He has only spent one year outside of an animal shelter. He wants to experience what it is like to live in a family where he is loved, respected, and cared for. Berci wants to participate in regular, exciting daily walks, excursions, and happy joint activities. He is smart and clever and learns quickly. He would do anything to be a friend and faithful companion to his new owner. He needs positive reinforcement and patience during the adjustment phase. Good luck, dear Berci, we are rooting for you! For sure, the great dog man will give a lot back when he is in the right place and has found his people. Berci is ready to travel. Since Berci is a staff-mix, you need to check with your local community about their pet ownership permits if you are interested in him. Berci and animal-happyend thank Miriam Stäldi for taking over the patronage.

About Berci

What life with Berci looks like

Berci is a adult dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Berci, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Berci?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Berci on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Berci if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Berci already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Berci isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Berci and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
