Bernie

Greyhound · Female · Adult · 5 years

Hi guys, I’m Bernie! A beautiful 5-year-old Greyhound looking for my forever home. Not to brag, but I have been described as an “absolute dream”!I love spending time with people and am a friendly, affectionate girl who enjoys plenty of fuss and attention. My favourite thing of all is CUDDLES! I thrive on human company and can be a little unsettled when left on my own, so I'd love a home where someone is around for much of the day, or where I can gradually build my confidence and learn that being alone isn't so scary.I am a good girl on the lead, although I do get excited if I spot something worth chasing like squirrels or cats! I get on well with other dogs of a similar size and am always happy to make new canine friends.Because I have a high prey drive, I am looking for a home with no cats, small dogs or other small furry animals. I am also looking for an adult-only home, where I can relax and enjoy a calm environment.I can't wait to find my forever family and secure my permanent spot on the sofa. Don't worry, I'll make room for you... I promise! About Bernie

What life with Bernie looks like

Bernie is a small adult greyhound dog waiting at National Animal Welfare Trust in Watford.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bernie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bernie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. National Animal Welfare Trust handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bernie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bernie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — National Animal Welfare Trust will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Bernie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bernie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with National Animal Welfare Trust early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bernie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
