adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Bernie has found a home! His story: In the Public Shelter in Baia Mare, three beautiful puppies, three real gold mines, are sitting and waiting for their big chance to leave Romania. Of course, we have vowed not to rest until we have the puppies Bernie, Loki, and Jolie in safety and have found a place for all three with loving people who will now care for and love them, showing them how wonderful life as a family dog can be. The handsome Bernie is a sweet puppy who fearlessly and joyfully approaches people and other dogs. The droll, small male dog will surely quickly gain trust if he is allowed to move into a loving home. Bernie is alert and loves to play around with his siblings. His fur is soft and fluffy, light brown with bright white patches on his sweet snout, paws, and chest. His pretty, playful face gives him a particularly alert and cheerful look. From dark round eyes, he looks hopefully into his future. Bernie is only about four months old and will likely grow into a large and strong male dog. Of course, Bernie will quickly settle into his new home, although he naturally has no experience with life as a house dog and knows little about house training and leash manners. But Bernie is a very alert little guy. With lots of patience, understanding, and positive reinforcement, he will surely learn the entire puppy 1×1 class quickly. After the adjustment period, Bernie will be happy to visit a positively working dog training class. In a few months, Bernie will enter puberty, which may put everything he has learned so far into disarray. Then, rules will be questioned, and boundaries will be tested. But with a loving and consistent upbringing by his adopters, the little puppy will emerge from this phase as a well-mannered and confident young male dog, faithfully and reliably accompanying his family in all activities. We are very happy that Bernie and his siblings have developed so well and now wish for loving people who will take him in with love and patience, giving him a family connection, a warm dog bed, beautiful walks, and – crucial for a puppy – plenty of contact with fellow animals. We would also be very happy about a foster home for the little puppy. We thank the namingsponsor Alexandra M. for giving the little Bernie his name! As of: 30.04. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped.

Stand: 30.04.2025

About Bernie

What life with Bernie looks like

Bernie is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bernie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bernie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bernie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bernie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bernie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bernie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bernie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
