adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Here is our Bernie – our charming “Good-Mood Ambassador” on four legs. With his bright, dense fur and his loyal gaze, this approximately 4-year-old male dog not only looks like a little cuddle bear but also seems to have invented a smile. Bernie came to us, like many of our shelter residents, with no known background – but that does not detract from his joy in life. At a shoulder height of about 50 cm, he shows himself here as an absolutely sweet, friendly, and affectionate companion who is very devoted to people. Whether Bernie has already known life in a home, we do not know. We suspect that he still has to learn the dog ABC from the ground up. House training, walking on a leash, or being left alone are topics that he would like to discover in peace with his new people. Since we do not know his parents, it is difficult to say which breeds may be in him. We can, however, not rule out herding or guard dog traits. Therefore, his future people should enjoy leading a strong-willed dog with loving consistency. A visit to a positively working dog training class would certainly be a valuable support. His compatibility with others has not yet been tested with cats. With other dogs, he shows himself friendly and social throughout. Bernie is more than ready to trade his uncomfortable life in the shelter for a comfortable home. His puppyhood and adolescence are behind him – now he wants to finally take off. He looks forward to many adventures in nature and at least as many cuddle hours with his people. Bernie travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated to his new home and of course brings his EU pet passport with him. After a positive review, a foster home would also be a valuable first step in a happy dog life. A heartfelt thank you to Natalie, who gave Bernie his name and thus a sense of identity. As of: 30.04.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 15.05.2026

About Bernie

What life with Bernie looks like

Bernie is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bernie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bernie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bernie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bernie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bernie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bernie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bernie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
