Bert is a gorgeous young boy with a scruffy black coat, a little white flash on his chest and a face full of character. At only around 5 to 6 months old, he has already had a very unsettled start to life, but he is now safe and being cared for while we prepare him for the chance of a much happier future. Bert was found wandering around completely alone after apparently being thrown out. A man had taken pity on him and given him some dry bread, but this little puppy had nowhere safe to go. We simply couldn't leave him there. He was taken straight to the vet, where he was estimated to be around 5 to 6 months old and weighing approximately 13kg. His initial tests showed that he had giardia, so treatment was started along with treatment for parasites and fleas. Bert later developed an upset stomach and diarrhoea, so he returned to the vet for further treatment. Because he is still such a young puppy, the vet also recommended preventative serum against possible parvovirus. He was isolated while receiving treatment and, encouragingly, continued to eat.
