Adopt Berta

English Bulldog · Female · Young · 1 year

over: 🍀 Other dogs: gladly as a second dog Other animals: unknown Children: currently no Dogs' experience: experience with insecure dogs Problems: needs leadership, unsure with strangers Specials: loves trick training and hide-and-seek Hello, my name is Berta. I came into the animal shelter as a confiscation because my owner couldn't keep me anymore. Here, I've already learned a lot because I knew almost nothing. I now run very well on the leash, can also be left alone for a while, and enjoy going for rides in the car and discovering more of the world. Of course, I'm house-trained. I get along well with other dogs, and it would be very much appreciated if a dog could already live with you. Of course, I still have a few things we need to work on. If I feel comfortable with you, I try to control my people, which means that my people can no longer move freely in their home. With management and crate training, we can get that under control. You shouldn't be afraid of me, because that only strengthens my behavior. Unfortunately, I can't currently live with children because, although I really love them, I would love to play head games and learn new tricks with them. I'm looking for people who will take me in and take over leadership in all life situations for me. Because I'm actually incredibly insecure and need you to help me integrate into society. I want to follow you and leave everything to you, but I have to be 100% sure that you lead me and protect me from the outside world. Do you want to help and lead me? Then send a mail right away and tell me how I would live with you and what dog experience you already have.

About Berta

What life with Berta looks like

Berta is a young adult english bulldog dog waiting at Tierheim Stuttgart in Stuttgart.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Berta, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Berta?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Stuttgart handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Berta on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Berta if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Stuttgart will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Berta already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Berta isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Stuttgart early rather than rehoming privately; they know Berta and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
