Bertie & Nickey

Pointer · Male · Senior · 13 years

Bertie & Nickey are a looking for a home together, they are looking for a calm and relaxed home with adopters who take them on leisurely strolls followed by a quiet snooze on the sofa. They can live with secondary school aged children who will play with them nicely and will understand when they need a break and give them space to relax and rest when needed. Bertie & Nickey will be going home together and would like to be the only pets on the home so they can have all of the attention to themselves, they would however be happy with polite and friendly walking buddies. They have some training under their belt, they know their names, they aren’t super interested in engaging in training any further but may be enticed with the help of tasty treat. Bertie & Nickey can settle in the home for short periods of time as long as they are together, so could be left for up to 4 hours, this would need to be built up gradually after they have had time to settle into their new home. Bertie & Nickey will be on daily medication and will need to meet their adopters a few times prior to going home so please bear this in mind when applying. Perfect Duo Bertie & Nickey are 13 year old Pointer crosses who are looking for the perfect retirement home. Their idea of the perfect day is going out exploring and sniffing on a walk followed by a nice comfy snooze. They are not super fussy about toys, preferring to go out on an adventure. They like to cuddle up together for a nap, but Nickey will venture onto the sofa for a snuggle, he likes to lay his head in your lap for ear scratches, Bertie is a bit more independent and will happily curl up in his bed. These lovely lads are ready to find their new home.

About Bertie & Nickey

What life with Bertie & Nickey looks like

Bertie & Nickey is a senior pointer dog waiting at Dogs Trust Canterbury in Chestfield.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bertie & Nickey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bertie & Nickey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Canterbury handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bertie & Nickey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bertie & Nickey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Canterbury will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bertie & Nickey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bertie & Nickey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Canterbury early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bertie & Nickey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
