Bilbo

Pointer Β· Male Β· Senior Β· 9 years

I would like an adult only home with adopters who have plenty of time for me. I would be happy to be homed as an only dog! I have never met cats. I would like a secure garden with 6ft+ fences. I would love one or two slow walks a day! I have lived in a home before so know the basics, but I may need a few reminders! I have been neutered and am ready for my forever home. 07-11-26 Bilbo is a gorgeous boy who has found his way into our care after spending nine years in a home before sadly being returned to his breeder. He is an absolutely lovely boy who is very much a family dog and is ready to find somewhere to enjoy his golden years. Bilbo will be looking for a loving home with adopters who have experience with dogs of a similar breed. At the moment, we feel he would be best suited to an adult-only home where he can have the time, patience and understanding he needs to settle into his new home. Bilbo does show signs of separation anxiety and can become quite unsettled when people leave his kennel and will bark at them to try and stop them leaving. He will need adopters who are happy to work with him on this, helping him to feel more comfortable and gradually building up the time he can be left alone. With patience, consistency and lots of reassurance, we hope he will soon learn that he is safe and doesn't need to worry when his people leave him. Although Bilbo is an older boy, you wouldn't know his age when you meet him! Bilbo is outgoing, friendly and just wants to be everyone's best friend. He walks well on a lead, although he can be a little strong at times. Bilbo is confident enough that he could be homed as an only dog as long as his adopters were around most of the time and had plenty of time to spend with him. At the moment he is kenneled alone, but we will start introducing him to other dogs and in the right circumstances he may be able to be homed with another kind resident dog. Having previously lived in a home, Bilbo may already know some of the basics, although he might need a few gentle reminders as he adjusts to his new surroundings. He has some stiffness in his legs, which is to be expected with age, and he will be started on YuMOVE to help support his joints. Bilbo has already given nine years of his life to a home, and he deserves nothing more than to spend his golden years surrounded by love, comfort and all the fuss he could ever want. We really hope someone will see what a special boy he is and offer him the forever home he so deserves. Bilbo has a travel document. Bilbo has been given the Gift of Life by Marie Bradshaw Through the generosity of a Gift of Life sponsor, this dog was able to leave behind an uncertain future in Ireland and find safety and care at Many Tears. Every sponsorship helps us rescue and save more dogs in desperate need. If you would like to become part of a rescue story, please consider donating to our Gift of Life fund.

About Bilbo

What life with Bilbo looks like

Bilbo is a senior pointer dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bilbo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bilbo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bilbo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bilbo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Bilbo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bilbo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bilbo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
