Billy

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 8 years

I might not have had the easiest start in life, but that hasn’t stopped me from being one of the loveliest boys you could ever meet. I’m a gentle, affectionate soul with a heart full of love — and all I really want is someone to finally give me the loving home I’ve been waiting for. For some reason, people keep overlooking me. Maybe it’s because I’m a certain breed, or perhaps my lovely grey face makes people think I’m past my best. But I don’t understand it – because underneath all that grey, I’ve still got so much love, cuddles and zoomies to give! I’m hoping that someone will look past my appearance and see me for the sweet boy I really am. The staff here don’t know too much about my past, so I’ll need someone who understands that I’m starting a new chapter and may need a little help learning the ropes. In particular, I’ll need some support with my house training. I’m willing to learn, though, especially if you’re willing to be patient with me. I’d potentially be able to live with another dog of a similar size and temperament, following a successful introduction here at the centre. Alternatively, I’d love to have some doggy walking friends to meet out and about. I’m particularly looking forward to finding a dog I can have a good old zoom around with! 🐾 I’m a sighthound, though, so no other animals in the home please – those instincts are still very much there! A secure garden with fencing of at least 6ft is essential for me, where I can safely potter around and enjoy some outdoor time. I can live with children aged 11+, as I’m a gentle soul. I do need my alone time to be built up very gradually, though. I haven’t had enough kind and dependable people in my life yet, so naturally I want to stay close to the people who make me feel safe. With time, patience and understanding, I can learn that being left alone doesn’t mean I’ve been forgotten — my people will go out, and my people will come back. All I’m asking for is someone who will give me the chance I’ve been waiting for. If you think I could be the missing piece in your family, I’d love to meet you. Come and say hello – I can’t wait to lean in for a cuddle and show you just how special I am.

About Billy

What life with Billy looks like

Billy is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Jerry Green Dog Rescue in Lincoln.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Billy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Billy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Jerry Green Dog Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Billy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Billy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Jerry Green Dog Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Billy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Billy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Jerry Green Dog Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Billy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
