Poppy

Female · Young · 3 years

Hello, my name is Poppy, and I am a sweet little girl searching for the loving home I have always deserved. Life hasn’t been very kind to me, so the world can still feel like a big, scary place. I need a calm and patient family who will support me, guide me and gently show me that I am safe. Once I realise everything is okay, I begin to come out of my shell. That’s when you’ll discover how affectionate I am – I love giving kisses and curling up on your lap for cuddles. Nobody knows much about my history, which means I will need help with the basics, including house training, recall and general training. I am already starting to get the hang of some of these things; I just need someone kind and patient who can help me continue learning at my own pace. I love being with my people, so any time left alone will need to be built up gradually please. I will also need a secure garden with 5 – 6-foot fencing, where I can safely practise my zoomies! I would love to live with a confident, friendly dog of a similar size who can show me the ropes and help my confidence grow, and pending a successful introduction here at the centre. I cannot live with cats though, as I would find chasing them far too exciting. I could potentially live with calm, dog-savvy children aged 11 or over who understand that many noises, places and experiences are still new to me. I may need a little extra patience at first, but beneath my worries is a loving little dog who is ready to blossom. Could you be the family who helps this Poppy bloom?

About Poppy

What life with Poppy looks like

Poppy is a small young adult dog waiting at Jerry Green Dog Rescue in Lincoln.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Poppy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Poppy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Jerry Green Dog Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Poppy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Poppy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Jerry Green Dog Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Poppy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Poppy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Jerry Green Dog Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Poppy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
