Della and Gwen

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 9 years

Hello, we’re Gwen and Della, and we’re looking for a very special home where we can stay together and finally learn what life as a dog is really all about. Gwen, who is the little black and tan girl, is around 1year old, and Della is around 9years old ❤️ We’ve come from a very complex background and, sadly, we’ve never really had the chance to experience life as normal dogs. Because of this, we’re going to need a very patient, understanding and kind family who is willing to let us take things at our own pace. We’re bonded and would love nothing more than to continue our journey together, with each other by our side. Della is our happy go lucky girl. She absolutely loves people and would happily spend all day having fusses, playing and enjoying attention. One of her favourite things to do is sit on a windowsill and watch the world go by. Gwen is a little more worried and needs much more time and patience to come out of her shell. She can be unsure of new people and situations, so it’s really important that she is never pushed beyond what she is comfortable with, however once she is your friend, she becomes the biggest cuddle bug you’ve ever met! Neither of us has had much opportunity to learn the basics, so our new family will need to help us understand things like walking nicely on a lead, building strong bonds with our people and learning how to live happily in a home. We’ll need our leaving hours built up gradually too, giving us plenty of time to settle and feel secure. We’re looking for a quiet home without too many people coming and going, where our family understands that we may need time to adjust. We need people who will respect our boundaries, listen to what we’re telling them and allow us to progress at our own pace rather than expecting too much too soon. A secure garden where we can safely potter, play and relax together would be perfect. We may be able to live with other dogs, cats or small furry animals, providing everyone gets along well and introductions are successful. We can live with children aged 14 years and over. We know we might be a little more work than some dogs, but we have so much love to give. With the right people, we truly believe we can blossom into the most wonderful companions. We just need someone special who is patient, understanding and willing to show us what life can be like, one little step at a time. ❤️

About Della and Gwen

What life with Della and Gwen looks like

Della and Gwen is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Jerry Green Dog Rescue in Lincoln.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Della and Gwen, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Della and Gwen?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Jerry Green Dog Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Della and Gwen on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Della and Gwen if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Jerry Green Dog Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Della and Gwen already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Della and Gwen isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Jerry Green Dog Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Della and Gwen and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
