Asiel Tenerife (Sabine): Input 7 August 2026: We sometimes receive distress calls from other islands via volunteers. This time, it was about this beautiful podenco boy, on Gran Canaria. Bitu lived with a hunter. In a cage, on a short chain, and only allowed out during hunting season to hunt. Apparently, he wasn't good enough for hunting and had to leave immediately. Then you have to decide quickly, place or no place... So this sweetheart came to our shelter! Bitu has a sweet and gentle character. He is still uncertain and a bit shy. This treasure takes its time with new impressions and also looks at new people at a distance before he becomes curious but cautious to get to know them. You notice that he wants to trust you and as soon as he knows you, he comes to you himself for a soft hug or some treats. We notice that another stable companion really offers support. The craziness of his friends is extremely contagious with him and you see him grow and become bolder as he understands what is going to happen, but also when he doesn't quite understand it. So, okay, you like this? Oh, nice, I just want to join in! It's very touching and beautiful to see how he tries his best to fit in, but also especially to be careful. He grows every day! And in the meantime, new visitors on the other side of the fence are also greeted directly through the fence. Bitu learns incredibly quickly and he loves walking. He walks well on a leash and pays close attention to the person walking with him to understand what is expected of him. You really see him looking for support and trying his best. On a long leash, with more freedom, the podenco in him comes to the fore and he knows exactly that he can be "free". You see him hopping from one bush to another, wagging his tail and completely in his element. Bitu knows the dog language very well. He can get along with everything and everyone here, without any tension or problems. He is social with females and males, is always ready for a game and also knows exactly where the boundaries are with the other dogs. We are looking for a quiet home for Bitu with loving people with time and patience to build up his trust. Preferably a home with another stable companion in the house because we really notice here that he enjoys other dogs but also takes an example from them. A stable companion would he like to follow to understand the routine and process new impressions. It gives him the confidence to come loose, enjoy and develop further every day. With a little patience, Bitu with his sweet and curious character will soon flourish into a cozy and faithful companion for life!

Asiel Tenerife (Sabine): Input 7 augustus 2026: Soms krijgen we noodkreten vanaf een ander eiland via vrijwilligers. Deze keer ging het om deze prachtige podenco-jongen, op Gran Canaria. Bitu leefde bij een jager. In een hok, aan een korte ketting en mocht er alleen uit tijdens het jachtseizoen, om te jagen. Blijkbaar was hij niet goed genoeg voor de jacht en moest hij per direct weg. Dan moet je snel beslissen, plek of geen plek... Zo kwam deze lieverd dus bij ons in het asiel! Bitu heeft een lief en zacht karakter. Hij is nog onzeker en een tikkeltje verlegen. Deze schat neemt rustig zijn tijd bij nieuwe indrukken en ook nieuwe mensen bekijkt hij eerst op een afstandje voordat hij toch nieuwsgierig maar voorzichtig kennis gaat maken. Je merkt aan hem dat hij graag wil vertrouwen en zodra hij je kent komt hij zelf naar je toe voor een zachte knuffel of wat lekkers. We merken aan hem dat een ander stabiel maatje echt steun bied. De gekkigheid van zijn maatjes is bij hem uiterst besmettelijk en je ziet hem dan groeien en dapperder worden als hij begrijpt wat er gaat gebeuren maar ook als hij het nog niet helemaal begrijpt. Zo van, oke, jij vindt dit leuk? Oh, gezellig, denk ik...ja leuk, ik doe gewoon mee! Het is heel aandoenlijk en mooi om dit te zien, hoe hij zijn best doet om er bij te passen maar ook vooral om er voorzichtig bij te zijn. Hij groeit elke dag! En inmiddels wordt nieuw bezoek aan de andere kant van het hek ook al per direct enthousiast door het hek heen begroet.Bitu leert ontzettend snel en hij is dol op wandelen. Hij loopt goed aan de riem en let goed op diegene die met hem wandelt om te begrijpen wat er van hem wordt verwacht. Je ziet hem dan echt steun zoeken en zijn best doen. Aan de lange riem, met meer vrijheid, komt de podenco in hem te voor schijn en weet hij precies dat hij lekker "los" kan. Je ziet hem dan van het ene bosje naar het andere bosje huppelen, kwispelend en helemaal in zijn element. Bitu kent de hondentaal heel erg goed. Hij kan met alles en iedereen hier goed overweg, zonder enige spanning of problemen. Hij is sociaal met teefjes en reutjes, staat altijd klaar voor een spelletje en weet ook goed waar de grenzen bij de andere hondjes zijn.We zoeken voor Bitu een rustig thuis bij lieve mensen met tijd en geduld om zijn vertrouwen op te bouwen. Het liefst een thuis met nog een stabiel maatje in huis want we merken hier echt dat hij geniet van andere honden maar ook een voorbeeld aan ze neemt. Een stabiel maatje zou hij graag volgen om de routine te begrijpen en nieuwe indrukken te verwerken. Het geeft hem het zelfvertrouwen om los te komen, te genieten en zich elke dag verder te ontwikkelen. Met een beetje geduld zal Bitu met zijn zacht en nieuwsgierig karakter al snel opbloeien tot een gezellig en trouw maatje voor het leven!
