Bob

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 12 years

Bob is one of those dogs who hardly ever stand out in the daily routine of an animal shelter. Quiet, shy, and unobtrusive, he lives among concrete walls and metal bars—without ever truly having lived. His past remains shrouded in darkness, yet his fear speaks volumes: Bob has probably experienced something terrible. He’s extremely reserved around people. Whenever someone enters his kennel, he retreats, freezes motionless, or seeks refuge in a corner. He shows no aggression—only deep mistrust and profound insecurity. He’s learned that closeness can be dangerous and does his best to avoid it altogether. Bob knows nothing of what we’d call a “normal dog life”: no warm home, no walks on a leash, no loving touch. He doesn’t know how to live in a house. And yet, there’s something in his eyes—a quiet hope—that never quite seems to have faded. If you give him time and exude calmness, he’ll sometimes cautiously sniff your hand. Unfortunately, Bob has been withdrawing more and more lately. He rarely leaves his bed anymore, let alone voluntarily step out of his kennel, simply letting the stressful daily routine of the shelter pass over him. You can clearly feel how much this shelter life is wearing him down. It almost seems as if Bob has already begun giving up inside. Precisely because of this, we’re worried that he may not have much time left unless he soon gets the chance to leave this place behind. Bob urgently needs a calm environment, people with plenty of patience, understanding, and experience handling anxious dogs. An experienced first dog could help him find his bearings and gradually build trust—going at his own pace, without pressure or expectations.

DE·Show original

About Bob

What life with Bob looks like

Bob is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Arme Hundeseelen in Năsăud.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Romanian rescues handle the highest volume of cross-border adoptions in the EU. Animals are quarantined and fully vetted before transport. Reputable rescues maintain detailed health records and post-adoption follow-up.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bob, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bob?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Arme Hundeseelen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bob on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bob if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Arme Hundeseelen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bob already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bob isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Arme Hundeseelen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bob and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
