I’m a male bull terrier, about 2.5 years old. People who know my breed know exactly what I mean when I say I behave like a true bull terrier. I’m sweet, funny, stubborn—and as subtle as a bulldozer. I’m glad I ended up at HondenCampus. Before, they weren’t so kind to me. When I first arrived here, I didn’t trust my trainer one bit. I did want to make contact, though—I was just so nervous, and before you knew it, snap! Especially when she tried to pet my head, I’d get a little scared. Not very smart, considering my inflamed eyes. But they took plenty of time with me, and now I even enjoy lounging on the couch for a cuddle. I’ve also learned that when I start feeling tense, it’s better for me to grab a toy and let off some steam. Now they think I’m ready for the next step—a place of my own. Somewhere where I can learn to bond again and have plenty of time to build trust at my own pace. I’m looking for a spot in a calm household with one or two people, no young children or other pets. On walks, I can usually ignore other dogs just fine. But up close, I make it clear that I’m not exactly eager for attention. I love going out with you—whether it’s a nice walk or a trip to the water. Even though I’ve almost drowned three times already, I keep trying, and someday I’ll learn how to swim. It would be handy if you could keep me on a leash, so you can gently guide me back to shore. Ik ben een bullterriër reu van ongeveer 2,5 jaar oud. Mensen die mijn ras kennen die weten precies wat er bedoeld wordt als ik zeg dat ik me gedraag als een echte bullterriër. Ik ben lief, grappig, stikeigenwijs en net zo subtiel als een bulldozer. Ik ben blij dat ik bij HondenCampus terecht ben gekomen. Voorheen waren ze niet zo lief voor me namelijk. Toen ik hier net was vertrouwde ik mijn trainster voor geen meter. Ik wilde wel graag contact maken hoor, maar ik vond het zo spannend en voor je het wist, hap! Vooral als ze aan mijn kop wilde zitten werd ik een beetje bang. Niet zo handig gezien mijn ontstoken oogjes. Maar ze hebben uitgebreid de tijd voor me genomen en inmiddels kom ik zelfs al even lekker op de bank liggen om te kroelen. Ook heb ik geleerd dat wanneer de spanning oploopt ik beter even een speeltje kan pakken om me op af te reageren. Inmiddels denken ze hier dat ik klaar ben voor de volgende stap, een eigen plekje. Ergens waar ik me weer opnieuw mag leren hechten en rustig de tijd krijg om vertrouwen op te bouwen. Ik zoek een plekje in een rustig huishouden bij 1 of 2 personen, zonder jonge kinderen of andere dieren. Tijdens de wandeling kan ik andere honden meestal prima negeren. Maar van dichtbij laat ik wel duidelijk merken dat ik niet op contact zit te wachten. Ik vind het heerlijk om mee op pad te gaan. Lekker wandelen of naar het water. Ook al ben ik al 3 keer bijna verzopen, ik blijf het proberen en ooit ga ik leren zwemmen. Wel handig om me aan de lijn te houden dus zodat je me naar de kant kan hengelen.
