adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Boje is still waiting for his perfect place in life—a quiet, rural setting with people who truly understand him. The large, impressive male dog, about 6 years old and around 70 cm, shows more of his personality every day in his shelter when given time and space. Boje is a typical herding dog: independent, vigilant, territorial, and very loyal to his trusted people. Once he builds trust, he becomes clingy, attentive, and enjoys the company of his "own" people very much. He loves quiet affection as much as small play moments—always at his own pace. For Boje, a structured environment is particularly important. Clear rules, established routines, and confident, calm leadership give him security and orientation. Resources like food are important to him, so continued calm and reliability should be maintained here. People with experience in handling herding dogs are best suited for this. Boje can befriend female dogs, but meetings should always be controlled and thoughtful. We currently do not recommend living with male dogs. Boje would prefer a place as a single prince, where he doesn't have to share. New situations and contacts require time—Boje wants to observe, understand, and then decide. In the early days in the new home, a muzzle is an important companion for all involved. Boje knows it, wears it without problem, and accepts it calmly. With growing trust, he shows how cooperative and sensitive he can be. His past has left its marks, but Boje has developed impressively. The previous injuries on his neck are fully healed, and he is physically stable today. What he now needs is a safe place to settle—in a quiet setting with an enclosed garden and people who will patiently accompany him. Boje can be visited in his shelter and would greatly appreciate a foster home or, of course, his permanent home. Maybe he can finally experience what it feels like to truly belong. Boje is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated. He travels with an EU pet passport after a positive assessment. Who will give this special dog the chance at a life of safety, clarity, and trust? Heartfelt thanks to Lena N., who gave Boje his name and thus an identity. Thanks to Frank R. for his valuable monthly sponsorship. And a big thank you to Silke Janssen for the wonderful photos of Boje. Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! About Boje

What life with Boje looks like

Boje is a extra-large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Boje, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Boje?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Boje on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Boje if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Boje already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Boje isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Boje and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
