Adopt Bones

Podenco · Male · Young · 3 years

Animal shelter Eleos: Update January 22, 2026: 6 new photos added. Input October 30, 2025: Bones is now three years old. He was rescued in March 2025 from a hunter. He was found by a girl at a gas station. He was so weak, our poor soul, when we found him. He got the name Bones because he was skin and bones. But now he is healthy and strong, and he always gives hugs. He has no trauma, despite what happened to him. He is one of the most loving and social dogs we have had at the animal shelter for a long time. Bones lives with about 20 other dogs (puppies and females) at the animal shelter. They play all day and then take long naps. With people he is the sweetest, as seen in the videos. Also with children he is super sweet. All volunteers love him. Bones loves being petted, lying in the sun, and walking on the beach. He also has two good dog friends, Silka and Jara, with whom he likes to play. Bones walks well on a leash. He was once attacked by another dog, after which he became afraid and barked at strange dogs on the street. He is now socially well again and dares to approach other dogs and play with them. For Bones we prefer a home without other males. He is very affectionate and can live well with a female. At first he can get jealous if affection is involved. He is always looking for hugs and kisses. Bones is neutered, and all his blood tests are good.

Asiel Eleos: Update 22 januari 2026: 6 nieuwe foto's toegevoegd. Input 30 oktober 2025: Bones is nu drie jaar oud.

About Bones

What life with Bones looks like

Bones is a young adult podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bones, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bones?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bones on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bones if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bones already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bones isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bones and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
