Adopt Bonsai

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Bonsai came to us in somewhat worse condition. A cold had caught up with him. Apparently, he has been carrying it for some time. Unfortunately, the medical treatment did not really work, and so we assume that the cold is chronic and will remain. Due to the risk of contagion, he can only be paired with other sick rabbits. Bonsai is likely around the beginning of last year’s age, as he was in a growth phase for a long time. Typical for young giant rabbits, he is playful on the go, very people-oriented, always wants to be involved, and wants to be part of our lives, full of energy and ideas. Not all of them are good :D Here, you will definitely get a great companion :) Feel free to send us an email with information about your current rabbit care and relevant photos. There is no cage available yet, and you are planning to start with rabbit care? We are also happy to offer advice and tips and answer your questions. We would be very happy to arrange a meeting and show you our rabbits, as well as possible cage options and setup variations.

About Bonsai

What life with Bonsai looks like

Bonsai is a small adult mixed breed animal waiting at Tierschutzverein Minden e.V. in Minden.

Every animal has their own temperament and history. The shelter knows Bonsai far better than any listing can convey — ask about daily routine, ideal household, and what kind of adopter they're hoping for.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bonsai, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bonsai?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Minden e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bonsai on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bonsai if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Minden e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bonsai already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most animals on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bonsai isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Minden e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bonsai and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
