Bootsmann

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Bootsmann could be successfully rehomed after fulfilling all club requirements in November 2017. ………………………………………………………………………………………………… American Staffordshire Terrier My name is Bootsmann. I am male, neutered, born in 2016, and I am microchipped and vaccinated. I am approximately 55cm tall. I have been waiting since December 2016 for a new home. My caretakers say about me: Bootsmann was illegally kept in Brandenburg and traded against a boat by animal friends to give him a better future. He lives with the pack here, but remains confident and not easily impressed. Due to puberty and mischief in his head, he is a young dog who should be rehomed as soon as possible into a stable environment with clear tasks and rules. A visit to dog training classes is a prerequisite, in addition to basic obedience training, there can also be plenty of playtime with fellow animals. Of course, Bootsmann is a real cuddle monster that not only needs consistency but also a lot of love. He likes to laze around and cuddle just as much as he likes fun, sports, and play. For Bootsmann, we are looking for active and adventure-loving people who can show him his boundaries with love, because his healthy self-confidence can sometimes lead him to be a bit strict. Children should be older and dog-experienced, and the parents should have the necessary sense of responsibility. Other animals can still be trained with Bootsmann with the right nerves, which would have to be tested on an individual basis. If he is to move in as a second dog, the same applies. However, a preferred option is a single spot due to the training needs, which are always present, because Bootsmann is not a dog for anything but the most serious commitment. For the visit, we ask for previous appointment confirmation! Those who want to navigate life with Bootsmann and bring him on course wait here for their tasks that the world has prepared for him… The descriptions are impressions and photos of the animal in our animal shelter and our foster homes. Each animal can develop differently in the new home.

About Bootsmann

What life with Bootsmann looks like

Bootsmann is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Schkortitz in Grimma.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bootsmann, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bootsmann?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Schkortitz handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bootsmann on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bootsmann if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Schkortitz will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bootsmann already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bootsmann isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Schkortitz early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bootsmann and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
