Borris

Golden Retriever · Male · Young · 2 years

Borris is a fun loving, adventurous dog who loves to get off-site for adventures! If there is water nearby, Borris will always be up for taking a dip, and he is more than happy to travel in the car to get to the best spots. He would benefit greatly from a home that has plenty of space for him, including a secure outdoor area and an area inside the house that is just for him. If you think you could offer Borris a forever home, please don't hesitate to pop in an application. Our Rehoming Team will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have about Borris and his home requirements. Thank you! This gorgeous boy is Borris, a 2 year old Golden Retriever! He is a very clever boy who loves working on his training and engaging in enrichment activities with his handlers. Borris has a few different specific training areas that his adopter will need to be willing to carry on in his new home. These include resource guarding, muzzle wearing and vet handling. Due to these extra needs, Borris will have a fully supported adoption process with our training team, including multiple meets and home visits. Borris is a very affectionate boy who has formed the most lovely bonds with his closest handlers. He is looking for an adult only home where he will get plenty of attention. He can't wait to have a best friend for life! As Borris loves his favourite people so much, he would like it if he has them all to himself. This means that he will need to be the only pet, but he can have dog walking buddies.

About Borris

What life with Borris looks like

Borris is a young adult golden retriever dog waiting at Dogs Trust Ballymena in Ballymena.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Borris, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Borris?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Ballymena handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Borris on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Borris if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Ballymena will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Borris already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Borris isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Ballymena early rather than rehoming privately; they know Borris and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
