Boyka

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 2 years

Boyka, female dog born in 2024. Boyka is a medium-sized female dog of brown and white coloration. She is healthy, however her biggest challenge remains the emotional sphere and relationships with people. This is a strongly withdrawn dog, in the process of being socialized. In direct contact, especially when trying to touch her, she can react with aggression - although it is worth noting that thanks to systematic work by the caregivers, these behaviors are gradually weakening. This is an important signal that Boyka has the potential for change, but it requires time, consistency and a very conscious approach. In new places and rooms, she tends to "freeze" - she withdraws and tries to get through the situation that overwhelms her. She is mistrustful of people and needs a lot of time to feel safe and build a relationship. On the yard, she shows a completely different side - she is more confident, active and determined. She likes to watch her surroundings and bark at external stimuli. She functions well in the company of other dogs - she gladly interacts with them and joins in play, which is a very positive aspect of her behavior. The presence of a stable canine companion in the new home can significantly help her adapt. Boyka is a lover, which is a big asset in training and building positive associations. Currently, she cannot walk on a leash, so the future caregiver must be prepared to start training from scratch. We are looking for a calm, patient and responsible home for Boyka - preferably for a person who has experience with anxious dogs or is willing to cooperate with a behaviorist. It will be key to build trust without pressure and to provide her with a stable, predictable environment. Boyka is a demanding dog, but gives real hope for improvement. With the right support and involvement, she has a chance to slowly open up and find her place by the side of a person. Boyka is spayed, vaccinated, dewormed and sterilized.

Boyka, sunia urodzona w 2024 roku. Boyka to średniej wielkości suczka maści brązowej podpalanej. Jest zdrowa, jednak jej największym wyzwaniem pozostaje sfera emocjonalna i relacje z człowiekiem. To pies mocno wycofany, będący w trakcie procesu oswajania. Lubi obserwować otoczenie i oszczekiwać bodźce z zewnątrz.

About Boyka

What life with Boyka looks like

Boyka is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) in Poland.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Boyka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Boyka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Boyka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Boyka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Boyka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Boyka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Janik (Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Boyka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
