Boyke

Male · Adult · 6 years

Boyke is a sweet 6.5-year-old Boomer who has unfortunately experienced a great loss. After both his owners passed away, he was lovingly taken in by family. They have cared for Boyke with great care, but noticed that he becomes very unhappy when he is alone. Therefore, they are giving him a home where he can receive the attention and companionship he so desperately craves. Boyke is an incredibly sweet and sociable dog who can get along with just about anyone. He finds it especially important to have someone with him. Being alone is not his thing. As soon as he has company, Boyke is in his element. Initially, Boyke is a bit reserved with other dogs. We think that a calm, social dog companion might be just what he needs, but we will of course need to build this up slowly. Boyke enjoys strolling around at his own pace and discovering the world around him. He doesn't need to be an adventurer; being together and enjoying each other's company is much more important to him. Boyke would be a very nice and loyal addition to a family or household where there is enough time and attention for him. He really only asks for one thing: stay close to him. In return, you get an incredibly sweet, sociable, and grateful dog who wants nothing more than to be together. Who will give this sweet boy a warm home where he can really feel at home again? NL·Show original

About Boyke

What life with Boyke looks like

Boyke is a large adult dog waiting at Dierentehuis in Netherlands.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Boyke, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Boyke?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Boyke on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Boyke if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierentehuis will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Boyke already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Boyke isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis early rather than rehoming privately; they know Boyke and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
