Adopt BRUCE

German Shepherd · Male · Senior · 9 years

BRUCE - lost his family - male dog, German Shepherd/Husky Mix, 9 years old, born ca. 2016, arrived 2017, 42 kg, SH ca. 54 cm, vaccinated, microchipped, neutered, EU-Pass. - Waiting in Spain! Bruce gets along with all the dogs, likes children, and adores people. We hope that Bruce will soon find a home where he will be happy for the rest of his life. He is very lost at the animal shelter because he used to have a family and just doesn't understand why they no longer want him.... Bruce needs the company of people, although he grew up with cats, one must be patient with them, as it takes time for them to get to know him, otherwise it can be dangerous for them, even though there were always cats in his previous home. He knows his cats, and if a cat attacks or provokes him, he might react. Bruce enjoys going for walks and playing with balls. He was brought to the animal shelter after his previous family sold their house and moved to an apartment where they could no longer keep him due to space. He is a little dominant when it comes to food, but only with other male dogs. Female dogs can eat with him and there are no problems. Bruce adores the company of people and has lived happily with children. For very small children, he is not recommended, as Bruce protects his toys. We hope that Bruce will soon find a home where he will be happy for the rest of his life. He is very lost at the animal shelter because he used to have a family and just doesn't understand why they no longer want him - he would never leave his people! When can Bruce hope.....? About BRUCE

What life with BRUCE looks like

BRUCE is a senior german shepherd dog waiting at Step by Paw e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting BRUCE, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about BRUCE?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Step by Paw e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw BRUCE on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt BRUCE if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Step by Paw e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is BRUCE already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if BRUCE isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Step by Paw e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know BRUCE and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
