Bruno

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

At our friends at Dolmen Animal, there's currently a cuteness overload on 24 paws. But despite how cute and adorable that is, the real reason our partners are currently maintaining a permanent smile, despite the soon-ending hunting season, full enclosures, and the fact that hunting dogs are still outside the new Spanish animal protection law, is because the fun sextet, along with their corresponding mother, are in their care. Isabelita was many months the worry of animal welfare workers. The extremely clever female dog was long cared for by residents in a small village. She was pregnant repeatedly, but her puppies either died or were stolen, and no one ever managed to secure the cautious and agile mixed-breed lady. Only Nube, one of her daughters, could be saved during an earlier litter. Isabelita survived live traps, left food alone, and knew exactly when someone tried to catch her. On December 25, the village residents called to say Isabelita was pregnant again, and on December 12, six new earthlings were born. What no one dared to hope for happened this time. While Isabelita was on a foraging trip, the animal welfare workers brought the puppies to a warm, dry, and most importantly, secure place. Isabelita actually made it to her babies, and the whole family could be secured. VID – very important dogs – can directly move to the management level, so Isabelita and her babies are now in the chief's care at the shelter. They are growing in security, learning to know people, are occasionally visited by volunteers so Isabelita can have a bit of peace, are given the best food, and are being raised by their fantastic mother to become capable world conquerors. Isabelita is already a witty mix, covering the whole range of conceivable dog breeds. Podenco, Bodeguero, Mastin Espanol, Pointer, perhaps a Pointer or a Bretone – in her gene pool, hunting dogs, herding dogs, sighthounds, terriers… and her current brood also shows all shades. We have here six surprise eggs in all colors, shapes, with long and short tails (short tails are often born in some hunting dog breeds and the Mastin), very undecided ears, and with the vague prophecy that they will one day be "medium-sized" (bigger than a Pomeranian, smaller than a Bernese Mountain Dog – with a probable end weight somewhere around 20-30kg). Our six sandbox rockers are currently 30cm tall and weigh 5kg (as of the beginning of February 2026). Bruno has chosen the demure black-and-white outfit, but for that, he has charming freckles, and his playful mask already hints that the mischief is in his back. When a kindly herding dog with a highly developed nose and terrier-like curiosity meets, it promises a lot of fun for nervous and humorous people – others should perhaps consider giving a home to one of our adult dogs. Bruno is a cheerful researcher, waiting to enchant his own family with a smile when he innocently stores socks and shoes in his dog bed, slaughters the children's favorite cuddly toys, or gets stuck under the cabinet where his new ball is hidden. If you have nerves, time, patience, and love for a sweet terrorist who will soon become an untrainable teenager, before you can only recall this exciting time with a wistful laugh when you walk with your elegant and handsome male dogs, who draws all the attention and is the neighborhood's favorite, then we look forward to hearing from Bruno soon!

Was niemand zu hoffen wagte, gelang diesmal.

About Bruno

What life with Bruno looks like

Bruno is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Bruno, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Bruno?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Bruno on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Bruno if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Bruno already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Bruno isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Bruno and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
