Buddy

English Bulldog · Male · Adult · 5 years

Buddy came into our animal shelter as a precaution. Due to the husbandry regulations of his breed, his previous owners were unfortunately not allowed to keep him. Buddy is a very energetic Rüder who only knows two speeds at our animal shelter: full throttle or standstill. Under the stressful shelter environment, Buddy struggles to find a moment of rest and often releases his frustration in an uncontrolled manner. Especially when on a leash, this frustration mixes with the joy of a walk. In these situations, he might grab the leash or lead in a tug-of-war to release his excess energy. Once outside the shelter grounds and the environmental stimuli decrease, Buddy can sometimes find a moment of calm. Only then is the stormy male dog truly approachable and doesn't want to miss his people. Buddy needs not only rest but also an absolutely consistent leadership with clear rules and boundaries. We are looking for a home that can provide the peace Buddy cannot find in an animal shelter. His future people should ideally be familiar with his breed and physically capable of handling him. Although he is generally compatible with other animals, Buddy still needs to learn how to be better suited as a single dog. Therefore, his new people should also have the time to adapt to his needs. Since Buddy reacts strongly to movement, there should be no other pets or small children in his new home. If you are interested in Buddy, please feel free to write us a substantive email or call us.

About Buddy

What life with Buddy looks like

Buddy is a adult english bulldog dog waiting at Kolner Tierschutzverein in Köln.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Buddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Kolner Tierschutzverein handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Kolner Tierschutzverein will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Buddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Kolner Tierschutzverein early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
