Buddy

German Shepherd · Male · Young · 2 years

Placement Assistance – Looking for a Forever Home for Mixed-Breed Buddy! We’re providing placement assistance for Buddy on behalf of a friendly animal welfare association. BUDDY is a German Shepherd with likely some Greek Shepherd dog in his lineage. He possesses many wonderful qualities: he’s highly people-oriented, affectionate, and cuddly. He forms an exceptionally close and intense bond with his trusted humans—closeness, trust, and shared time mean the world to him. Initially, BUDDY tends to be cautious and reserved around strangers. However, given enough time, he gradually warms up and slowly begins to open up to new people. At his foster home, BUDDY thoroughly enjoys life indoors—especially soft resting spots, warmth, and being close to his people. In the garden, he truly blossoms: he visibly delights in his new life, frolics joyfully with his canine friends through the yard, and fully savors this carefree time. When going for walks, he shows great focus on his human companion and displays keen curiosity. New experiences, exciting scents, and shared activities bring him immense joy. He keeps his people constantly in sight and is eager to please them. BUDDY gets along very well with other dogs. He learns quickly and thoroughly enjoys mental stimulation. Training, brain games, or attending a dog school would do him a lot of good and further strengthen his bond with his family. What Buddy is looking for: Living situation: quiet and preferably rural; either a house or apartment is fine. Ideal home: people who enjoy structure, training, and mutual development. BUDDY seeks individuals who can offer him security, closeness, and clear guidance. In return, he’ll give loyalty, attention, and a big, loving dog heart. Prospective adopters will be supported by an experienced trainer to ensure that Buddy’s transition into his new life goes as smoothly as possible.

About Buddy

What life with Buddy looks like

Buddy is a large young adult german shepherd dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Buddy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buddy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buddy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buddy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Buddy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buddy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buddy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
