Buddy (lab x lurcher)

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Meet Buddy ❤️ 19-month-old labrador x lurcher Meet Buddy, a truly special boy with so much love to give. At approximately 19 months old, this handsome Lurcher x Labrador is an affectionate, intelligent and loving young dog who is looking for a patient, understanding home where he can build his confidence and reach his full potential. Buddy is an absolute sweetheart. He loves nothing more than having a good run around, but he is equally happy snuggled up on a cosy lap or sofa, soaking up all the affection he can get. He loves his food, is a clever boy and is already getting the hang of commands such as “sit” and “down”. With consistency, positive reinforcement and one-to-one attention, Buddy has every potential to continue learning and become a wonderful companion. Buddy will need to be the only pet in the home. He can be a little unsure around unfamiliar dogs and would benefit from an understanding owner who can help him build his confidence at his own pace. He is still learning to feel comfortable in certain situations involving other dogs, particularly around food and other valued resources, so a dog-free home will help him feel secure and allow him to thrive. He has never shown this behaviour towards people. Once Buddy realises another dog isn’t going to frighten or chase him, he can relax, but he may initially feel worried and try to run away. For this reason, he will need to be kept on a lead around other dogs while he settles into his new life and continues his training. His recall has been good with the people he knows and trusts, and he has started learning to walk past other dogs calmly on a lead. This progress will need to be continued and consolidated with his new owner, as his recall with someone new is not yet known. Buddy also finds being left alone difficult if it is for longer than a couple of hours. He will need a home where someone is around for most of the time, particularly initially, to help him settle, build a strong bond and gradually learn that being left alone is nothing to worry about. A very secure, well-enclosed garden is essential, as Buddy can be something of an escape artist! His home and outdoor space will need to be carefully managed to keep this clever boy safe. Buddy’s previous owner very reluctantly made the decision to surrender him because of the other animals in the home. He was very much loved, and this decision was made with his best interests at heart. Now, Buddy deserves the chance to find a home where he can be the centre of someone’s world. He isn’t looking for a perfect person, but he does need someone willing to understand him, work with him and give him the time he needs. In return, you’ll have a loyal, affectionate and loving companion who will reward your patience many times over. Could you be the person who gives Buddy his chance to shine? ❤️ If you have a pet-free home, a secure garden, plenty of time to dedicate to him and the patience to help him grow in confidence, Buddy could be the very special boy you’ve been waiting for.

About Buddy (lab x lurcher)

What life with Buddy (lab x lurcher) looks like

Buddy (lab x lurcher) is a young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Almost Home Animal Rescue NI in Belfast.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Buddy (lab x lurcher), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Buddy (lab x lurcher)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Almost Home Animal Rescue NI handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Buddy (lab x lurcher) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Buddy (lab x lurcher) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Almost Home Animal Rescue NI will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Buddy (lab x lurcher) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Buddy (lab x lurcher) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Almost Home Animal Rescue NI early rather than rehoming privately; they know Buddy (lab x lurcher) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
