Adopt Butka

Vizsla · Male · Senior · 10 years

Home Country: Hungary We have a DNA breed determination. In May 2018, the friendly male dog Butka arrived at the animal shelter as a found dog. Nothing is known about his past, as he was not microchipped and no one was looking for him. For a short time, he was rehomed, but the new owner could not take care of him due to his age, so Butka landed back at the animal shelter in 2019. Since then, he has been waiting and waiting... The handsome dog with the white chest loves the staff, enjoys mental stimulation, and is always eager to learn new things. The animal shelter simply cannot provide enough of what he needs. He desperately needs a home with dog-experienced people, many walks, dog training classes, and lots of closeness. He has a big catch-up to do and wishes for cuddle hours and pampering moments. Nevertheless, a dog like Butka needs guidance, loving but clear rules, structure, and security. He is not always compatible with fellow animals. For this, he also needs experienced people who can safely guide him in interactions with other dogs. An Hungarian helper wrote in 2024: "Butka has been in the animal shelter for over five years. During walks, he shows some initial caution, but soon he gains affection and trust. He walks nicely on the leash, enjoys cuddles, and loves quality time." On September 10, 2025, a volunteer, an Hungarian helper, wrote: "Butka is one of the dogs that have been here the longest. He has been in the animal shelter for six years and will soon be ten years old! Butka is a loving, friendly, and well-mannered dog. He is people-oriented and likes children. During walks, he was full of energy, as he could finally run, sniff, and enjoy the new impressions and exciting experiences. From the beginning of the walk, he sought cuddles and affection. He longs for love and is grateful for every kind word. On the leash, he is easy to handle. Butka was very happy on the walk, and his handler said that he didn't want to go back to his kennel." On February 22, 2026, a volunteer, an Hungarian helper, wrote: "Butka has lived here for seven years. On mentor days, he gets the chance to go on a walk with his mentor. Even in February 2026, he was allowed to participate in such a walk. Butka walked joyfully and enthusiastically. There was so much to sniff and everything was so interesting outside his kennel. He loved his mentor very much, snuggled up to him, and gave him kisses, as if they had always been together. During the walk, he constantly asked for cuddles and affection. He was grateful for the mental stimulation and the time given to him. Butka is already over ten years old. He longs for a caring, patient, and responsible owner and a family with whom he can spend a large part of the day. He dreams of a comfortable lying place and a permanent, safe home where he is pampered, taken for walks daily, and loved very much. Butka is one of the little heroes of the animal shelter and is waiting for his person. Who will give Butka a second chance at a happy dog life? Since Butka is a staff mix, you need to check with your housing community about their pet ownership requirements if you are interested in him. Butka is travel-ready. A big thank you to Julia Ellen Zink for taking on the sponsorship of Butka.

About Butka

What life with Butka looks like

Butka is a large senior vizsla dog waiting at Animal Happyend in Animal Happyend.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Butka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Butka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Happyend handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Butka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Butka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Happyend will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Butka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Butka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Happyend early rather than rehoming privately; they know Butka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
