Cairo

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 10 years

Generalities: microchipped and vaccinated, a wonderful white and black dog, proud and powerful. The mix of breeds from which he descends makes him look very much like a Karelian bear dog. Temperament: Cairo is not an easy dog, quite the opposite, which is why few people in the dog shelter handle him. He does not like to be touched or petted, tolerating handling only from his closest contacts. He appreciates company and interaction with people but does so in his own way and with his distances that must always be respected. Excellent at recall, he is also very festive towards people he knows, which can mislead an inexperienced eye as there is always a strong distrust in him, especially regarding contact. He loves playing with balls and is good at working on exchanges. He is generally a possessive dog. Recently he has learned to wear a muzzle, which has allowed us to take him for walks outside the dog shelter, needless to say he loves green areas, trails and calms down a lot. Ideal adoption: Unfortunately, being a special dog, it is necessary not only that the person interested in him has experience with problematic dogs, but that there is also an appropriate environment at home to manage him, for example, he is not the dog that can come into contact with strangers coming into the house. Furthermore, a pre-adoption placement process is certainly not short and the awareness that there may also be a post-adoption placement process. He is a dog that pulls on the leash, so it is also necessary to have some physical strength. The hypothesis of adoption placement in the presence of another dog is very good, he loves them very much, but they must be well socialized with people. Excellent the hypothesis of a house with a garden, with the possibility of entering the house or even just the garden, perhaps in the company of another dog. No families with cats or children. Not as a first experience. background: Found by Enpa.

Generalità: Microchippato e vaccinato, meraviglioso cagnone bianco nero, fiero e possente. No come prima esperienza. Provenienza: Rinvenuto dall’Enpa.

About Cairo

What life with Cairo looks like

Cairo is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at ENPA Monza e Brianza in Monza.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cairo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cairo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ENPA Monza e Brianza handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cairo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cairo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ENPA Monza e Brianza will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cairo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cairo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ENPA Monza e Brianza early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cairo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
