Cally

Beagle · Female · Adult · 4 years

Cally is a hound through and through, nose to the ground and getting down to business on her walks! She likes to take everything in and can be strong on her lead, so she will need physically confident people to walk her. When Cally arrived she had a terrible fleas infestation but now she's flea-free and feeling good. She's not a fan of the vets so we went very slow with her, and her adopters would do right by her to take her to their local surgery just for happy visits now and again. Cally has no issues saying hello to new people but can be a little head shy, so her family should ask people not to fuss her around her head. We know from her previous home that she would howl if left outside for long hours, but not when inside and only left for a few. She may need any alone time building up from scratch whilst she settles in. She's a bit of a bin raider too, so anything that smells good should be kept out of her reach! Cally walks nicely with calm dogs away from the kennel, but she's not a fan of them getting too close. She was living with other dogs and found it difficult, so she's definitely suited to being the only dog in the household. Cally can live with children of high school age but will need to be the only dog at home, though she can walk with calm dogs. She is housetrained and can be left alone for a couple of hours once settled, though she will howl if left outside.

About Cally

What life with Cally looks like

Cally is a adult beagle dog waiting at Dogs Trust Merseyside in Liverpool.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cally, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cally?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Merseyside handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cally on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cally if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Merseyside will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cally already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cally isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Merseyside early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cally and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
