Adopt Canela

German Shepherd · Female

Canela ID No.: 1008393 Breed: German Shepherd mix Age: approx. 05/2021 Sex: female Shoulder height: approx. 64 cm Neutered/Sterilized: Yes Location: Marbella (Spain) Inquiry form Canela – wants to trust people again Canela (*approx. 05/2021, approx. 64 cm) was surrendered by her family to our Spanish partner animal shelter Triple A Marbella with the all-too-familiar excuse: "The child has an allergy." What we wonder is this: if your child has an allergy, does that mean all your love for your dog just disappears and you never want to see her again…? That’s exactly how Canela felt—heartbreakingly crying—as she was tossed away like a piece of leftover furniture. She arrived during a parvovirus outbreak, so she had to remain locked in quarantine for a very long time. Such horrific times for poor Canela. Canela is a dog who truly, truly wants her own person—yes, she goes for walks every day with different volunteers, but her heart aches for her favorite staff member, whose face she sees daily, and for her favorite friends who take the time during walks to cuddle her. She really is humanity’s best friend, and dogs like her find it especially hard to live in an animal shelter. They become mere shadows of themselves until they find THEIR person—and then suddenly blossom. When Canela is with her favorite people, she’s playful, loves running together, and joyfully leaps around like a young deer. Canela lives in a group with other dogs, both male dogs and female dogs, and she is well-socialized with other dogs. She only prefers to eat her food alone. Because she was abandoned in such a traumatic way, she suffers from separation anxiety. For Canela, we are looking for a home where her humans will spend most of their time with her and, especially at the beginning, have the time to help her feel at home and rebuild trust. Canela is vaccinated, neutered, microchipped, and has an EU pet passport. For travel arrangements, she has been tested for Mediterranean diseases, dewormed, and treated for fleas. Vaccinations: Yes Mediterranean disease check: Yes Microchip: Yes Known illnesses: None Guard dog: No Transport included Contact: Larissa Spörl Tel: Email:

About Canela

What life with Canela looks like

Canela is a adult german shepherd dog waiting at Helfende Hände e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Canela, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Canela?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Helfende Hände e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Canela on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Canela if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Helfende Hände e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Canela already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Canela isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Helfende Hände e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Canela and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
