Caramel

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy

Caramel is a beautiful male dog currently residing at our partner animal shelter, Hogar de Asis, where he’s waiting patiently for a loving home. Originally rescued from a pound, Caramel has been in the care of our animal welfare partner Tere since May 2026. We have no information about his past. His breed is listed in his EU passport as a mixed breed—part Border Collie and part Chow Chow—but this is merely a rough estimate provided by the veterinarian. Caramel lives with a female dog in a kennel, and their cohabitation works perfectly well. The two share food, water, and a bed without any issues whatsoever. In the mornings, during cleaning sessions, all the dogs are allowed to go out together into the large outdoor run. There, Caramel gets along splendidly with all his canine companions—especially the female dogs seem to particularly catch his attention. Here, he really lets his charm shine, making sure they notice him. And let’s be honest: with his impressive lion-like mane, how could they possibly say no, right? 😉 With his friends, he can play for hours on end, explore the outdoor run, enjoy the freedom, or simply nap in the shade while observing his surroundings. In his new home, it would be nice if there was already another compatible first dog—or even a small group of dogs—but it’s not a requirement. Caramel can also thrive happily as an only dog. When two strangers visited the shelter, Caramel initially kept his distance and observed them from afar. Caramel will likely need some time to adjust and build full trust in his new home. However, if you give him patience and security and are willing to provide him with loving, consistent training, he can blossom into a truly dream dog. We’d love for him to find people who enjoy spending time outdoors just as much as he does and who relish shared adventures. Daily walks with little playful interludes, weekend hikes, or joint trips—Caramel is ready to become a lifelong best friend.

About Caramel

What life with Caramel looks like

Caramel is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Europa in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Caramel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Caramel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Europa handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Caramel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Caramel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Europa will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Caramel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Caramel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Europa early rather than rehoming privately; they know Caramel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
