Adopt Cardo

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 2 years

In the LIDA, there is no respite again. Almost daily, there are appeals from tourists and found animals. Shepherds or private individuals bring their unwanted puppies or kittens to Rifugio. Quarantine areas, enclosures, or cages: Everything is packed to the brim. But to deny help to a small creature: That is not an option. And so, we also try to help by featuring some of the new arrivals on our website. Like these six siblings, Cannella, Cardo, Carmen, Charlie, Cosimo, and Cristoforo. The two girls and four boys are from the Industrial Zone. Either they were abandoned there, or one of the wild stray females, which they cannot catch, gave birth to them there. We unfortunately do not know. Cannella, Cardo, Carmen, Charlie, Cosimo, and Cristoforo are now, at least, in safety and are being fattened up. And through us, they get the chance to find a good home. It would be good if they could leave the Rifugio as soon as the travel regulations allow, so they can spend part of their puppy and imprinting phase in their permanent home. Maybe you would like to take one of these magical, lovable puppy children into your family? August 23, 2024: Two of our team members made a spontaneous trip to Sardinia in mid-August to personally meet and photograph our shelter animals. They also visited Cannella, Cardo, Carmen, Charlie, Cosimo, and Cristoforo, who share an enclosure with another 12 puppies (all our shelter animals). It is very sad that they still have not found families and must spend their childhood behind bars. The six siblings were very happy about the visit and wanted to be cuddled and stroked all at once. The commotion was very large, and four hands were clearly not enough :-). Despite the dreary life in the Canile, they have developed well, and it was nice to see how open they were. We hope they will soon find their own families and be allowed to travel to Germany. September 4, 2025: A team member and her daughter sacrificed some of their vacation time to personally meet or see some of the shelter animals. It was current to learn how the dogs have developed—among them, the friendly Cardo. Cardo is a friendly, pleasant dog who seeks loving closeness and affection. He wants to be loved and finally arrive—into a home that offers him security, this breed, and trust. A dog with a big heart, ready to give his affection— he just needs people who welcome him and give him the love he longs for. Would you like to give Cardo a home where he can finally arrive properly? If you are currently looking for a new furry family member and are aware that adoption brings not only great joy but also a lot of work and great responsibility, we look forward to your message. We provide nationwide support.

About Cardo

What life with Cardo looks like

Cardo is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at ProTier e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Cardo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Cardo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. ProTier e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Cardo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Cardo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — ProTier e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Cardo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Cardo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with ProTier e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Cardo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
